EuroNews recently visited Donegal to create a feature on the innovative spirit of rural locations, with a special focus on inishowen innovation (ii) in Buncrana.
This feature highlights the significant strides made by ii in driving digital innovation in the area, thanks to the collaborative efforts of ERNACT, the Donegal Digital working group, Donegal County Council, and Enterprise Ireland.
The Role of ERNACT and the ERUDITE Project
ERNACT’s involvement in the Interreg Europe ERUDITE project was a catalyst for the development of inishowen innovation. The project’s focus on digital innovation and its application in creating smart regions directly contributed to the establishment of the ii. Jose Manuel San Emeterio from ERNACT highlighted the project’s significance in an interview with Euronews, emphasising its role in advancing the area as a smart region.
The Impact of Inishowen Innovation
The creation of inishowen innovation has opened up new avenues for both the local community and businesses. By driving digital innovation, II is not only contributing to the economic growth of Inishowen but also enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The hub serves as a platform where ideas are nurtured, and innovation thrives, making it an attractive location for both startups and established businesses.
Acknowledging Key Partners
The creation of inishowen innovation would not have been possible without the support of its key partners:
- ERNACT: As the project lead of ERUDITE, ERNACT’s vision and leadership have been crucial.
- Donegal Digital Working Group: Their collaboration has been instrumental in aligning the hub’s objectives with the region’s digital strategy.
- Donegal County Council and Enterprise Ireland: Their funding and support have been vital in the establishment and operations of the ii.
Looking Forward
As inishowen innovation continues to grow, we expect it to play an increasingly important role in the development of the Northwest as a smart and digitally enabled region. The hub’s focus on innovation and community engagement will attract further investment and talent to the area, contributing to a sustainable and prosperous future.
